Bae has been telling me for a while that he wants to take me to what he believes is the best BBQ in Atlanta. In fact, Southern Living Magazine voted Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q the best barbeque in not just the Atlanta Metro area, but in the entire state of Georgia in 2024. Fox Bros. was vote Best Barbeque in Georgia for the second consecutive year. So I had to experience this for myself, because I absolutely LOVE some good BBQ! Most of the BBQ I had in the past has been either at mom and pop shops or places like This is It. So it was only time I tried a local spot specifically known for their barbeque.
We decided to go there for dinner. We got there around 7. There is literally nowhere to park at the restaurant. They have very few parking spaces and there are some spots for street parking directly in front of the building so we parked on the side street in the neighborhood and walked a few minutes back to the restaurant. I'm not sure if this is the original location before they expanded to other locations, but from the looks of the building it feels like it has been there for a long time. It looks like one of an old shack that you'd find on some country road in Texas from the outside. There is a dethatched building that walk-ups can go to to order food to-go and there are several tables on the outdoor patio underneath the shed and each table has its own umbrella for shade. Walking in, I noticed it stayed true to the 'Texas theme' aesthetic, which is very cool. I am a fan of authenticity, so they definitely get points for that! There wasn't a line outside when we arrived, but there was a 20-minute wait time to be seated at a table. Considering how popular this place is, I was not surprised and we were okay with waiting. This place is so popular that there were several people taking rideshares and getting dropped off just to eat there because they are aware of the parking situation.
We received the notification that our table was ready, then we were escorted to our table. I know that being asked "Have you been here before" is just something all servers do to make the dining experience feel unique, but this time, it felt so much warmer. Bae immediately answered that he has been a few times and that this is my very first time coming. It was then that I knew my experience was going to be great because the server was determined to make it great and so was bae. After she brought out our water, she immediately had recommendations for our appetizers. I ordered The Tomminator ($9), which is tots smothered in Brunswick Stew & cheese. For my entree I ordered the Classic Combo ($23) with brisket and chicken salad and a Frito Pie (I think this is supposed to come with a second side. The chicken salad counts as a second meat, so I don't know what happened to the second side) on the side (I know it's supposed to come with two sides, but I don't recall ordering the second side, nor do I recall receiving anything else). JD ordered Puled Pork ($16) with Mac & cheese ($6) on the side along with a bowl of Brunswick Stew ($9).
The Tomminator was absolutely amazing! The tots mixed so well with the Brunswick Stew! It was gooey from the cheese and the stew was hearty sweet. You know it's a great appetizer when you would eat it alone without ordering anything else.. it was that good! I didn't have my brisket sliced although she asked, so I had to slice it myself. Honestly, I could eat the brisket without adding any sauce to it because it was very tender and well seasoned. But I did add their house sauce to the brisket and it really does it right. I don't need to say anything else about the Brunswick Stew from how I described it with The Tomminator. I'm not a big soup guy but I love this soup! All the meat was tender, including the Pulled Pork JD had on his plate. The chicken salad was flavorful. Definitely had more of a crunch in it from the celery. I tasted JD's mac & cheese and it was very cheesy; very homestyle. It was a very large serving, which was awesome! Lastly, this I kind of knew what to expect from the Frito Pie because Cookout has something similar. But this one tastes genuine. The ingredients blend together to well in Fox Bros Frito Pie in comparison. I could taste everything in it from the chili, the beans, the pepper, and onions! So filling!
Overall, I am so glad I got this experience. My experience here was one of my favorite thus far, so yeah, bae got it right. Everything has so much flavor. Nothing is super processed. All natural ingredients. The cheeses, the beans, the meat.. all awesome. I recommend going! I won't go as far as saying it's the best bbq in Atlanta. Plenty of other spots to try before I make that call. But it is very good and worth the hype. Go see for yourself! Just make sure you go on early evening or maybe for lunch during the week so your opinion isn't soiled by the wait time and the parking.
